About Me
A British Bangladeshi, young author and the youngest Civic Award recipient of Tower Hamlets. She was born and raised in the heart of London amongst the most populated Bangladeshi community.
Zaynab’s interest in books became an addiction since she was in pre-school. She would come home, unzip her bag, take out a little guide to reading books and read it over and over again. One of the first books she read was ‘Saffy’ by Paola Opal.
Zaynab made a habit of carrying a book wherever she went. Whether she was waiting for an appointment, sitting outside an office while her father finished a meeting, or even accompanying her family on a shopping trip, a book was never far from her hands. While others browsed through clothes and accessories, Zaynab would quietly retreat to a peaceful corner and lose herself in the pages of her latest read. Nothing filled her with more excitement than receiving a fiction book as a gift; her face would light up with joy, and she could hardly contain her enthusiasm. Books were, without a doubt, her greatest treasure.
The first novel Zaynab read was Awful Aunty by David Walliams. Captivated by the story, she finished the entire book in a single Sunday. When her headteacher learned of this impressive achievement by a 7-year-old, he invited her into his office and offered her the opportunity to borrow any book from his personal collection. This special recognition filled Zaynab with pride and inspired her to develop an even greater love for reading.
Reading had broadened Zaynab’s vocabulary so greatly that words poured from her mind effortlessly with remarkable descriptive flair.
With the unwavering encouragement, support, and guidance of her parents and teachers, Zaynab’s love for learning continued to flourish. Dedicated and determined, she valued every opportunity to learn and seldom missed a day of school, believing that knowledge is the foundation of success.
At the age of 11, Zaynab wrote and published her first book, My Journey Through Cayley Primary. She proudly launched the book at her school’s summer fair, where it was met with great enthusiasm. Demonstrating remarkable generosity, she donated the proceeds from the book sales back to her primary school to support future pupils.
Zaynab also used her writing to make a difference beyond her local community. Through the sale of her books, she raised £500 to support less fortunate children living in countries affected by war and conflict. Her compassion, determination, and commitment to helping others made her achievement even more inspiring.
In recognition of her outstanding achievements and contribution to the community, Zaynab was honoured with the Civic Award and appointed as an Ambassador for the Borough, representing Tower Hamlets in the wider UK or abroad.
Inspired by the remarkable accomplishments she had achieved at such a young age, MP Rushanara Ali invited Zaynab to the Houses of Parliament. This prestigious invitation recognised her dedication, leadership, and positive impact on others, further inspiring her to continue pursuing her ambitions.
Towards the end of Year 7, Zaynab authored her second book, A Leap into the Unknown.
She chronicles the excitement, uncertainty, and personal growth that accompanied this important stage of her educational journey. The book serves as both a reflection on her own experiences and a source of encouragement for pupils facing a similar transition.
